Whole apples are anathema for people with braces. They are the first thing your dentist will tell you to never eat while you are wearing dental work because a bite into a whole apple can rip your brackets right off. So, to curb your apple cravings while you’re straightening your teeth, we have another “soft foods for braces” recipe for you to try. It’s a casserole with ham and apples. Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS:
-3 cups cooked ham
-½ teaspoon dry mustard
-1 tablespoon grated onion
-1 egg
-½ cup milk
-1 cup bread crumbs
-2 medium-sized apples
-¼ cup brown sugar
-2 tablespoons butter
DIRECTIONS:
Combine ham, mustard, onion, egg, milk and crumbs; place in greased baking dish.
Peel, core and slice the apples ½ inch thick; arrange slices to overlap on top of ham mixture around the edge of the dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar and dot with butter.
Bake uncovered in a moderate oven (375° F.) about 40 minutes or until apples are brown and tender. Makes 6 servings.
